May 15th eighth stage Le Faou to Chateaulin 20 kms
Nearly everything conspired against us today to put me now
two days behind schedule. Although I was on my bike by 8.50 and had covered the
two long uphills and two equally long downhills into Chateaulin in record time,
that was it for the day. A mixture of lots and lots of correspondence, some
concerned with WATU (luckily there is an excellent campsite at Chateaulin with
free WiFi access) together with another inexplicable puncture, this time in the
brand new inner tube in the VTT tyres I was now going to use for the rougher
tracks by the side of the Brest/ Nantes canal, and then losing the mobile phone
held us up for the rest of the day. However, Chateaulin is an attractive town on
the Aulne River, the starting point on the canal to Nantes so the hold up was
not as frustrating as yesterday’s. It is essential now, though, to make up time
over the next few days.
